Im having some increased pain on the right side where we found that other big tumor. I call our patient liaison around 9am on Friday for some more pain meds. They said they would give me a call back once they got a hold of Dr Hogan. I get a call from the hospital around 230, I think cool, they found him and we can go get the script. They cant find my cancer doctor and apparently it would be a calamity for another doctor to write a cancer patient a pain script. I have a severe episode Friday night into Saturday so with my only option for narcotic pain relief is to struggle out of the house and been seen by an Emergency Physician, off to urgent care we go. I dont have good luck, and if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all, today, the universe took pity on me and decided to flip the script. When I checked in at Urgent care I was visibly in pain but calm. Like I had mentioned before, at your first chemo appointment they give you a cancer binder. Just something to organize the hundreds of pages of literature, treatment plans, bills, authorizations and info pages into one place. My oncologist recommended bringing that to any appointment I had. So I went to hand the binder to the clerk so I didn't have re answer any questions that were already in there. Her eyes got as big as dinner plates and she said stay right here. She went and got the charge nurse who, luckily, recognized me from my initial appointment. "oh hunny, don't even check in, as soon as the doc is done with this patient i'll have him write you something to get you though the weekend". I guess you're pretty memorable when their first impression of you is of your balls the size of a plum, but hey, it got me in and out of urgent care in 20 minutes, and with no extra billing so I'll take it. We head to the pharmacy to get it filled, "Im sorry, we dont have enough to fill your prescription, you will have to try somewhere else". I was baffled, I was only getting 15 hydrocodone filled, but being in the epicenter for the nations opioid epidemic, I kinda understand. Luckily, the next pharmacy is only across the street, buuuttt they're also out, so across town it is to Wal Mart, there's no way a big retailer like that wont have 15 pills, I'm right. We drop the script off and walk around walmart for a bit, like i said I'm in pain, and the walking seems to help. 10 minutes later, we get the text that everything is ready and we head back home.
