Tuesday Morning rolls around and its time to get the new hardware placed in my chest. Claire and I get to the hospital around 9 for my 930 surgery. Much like everything else along this process, we run into issues. I was supposed to be wheeled back to to get things started around 10. Delay after delay, its getting close to noon, Im hangry because I had to stop eating at dinner last night, Im in significant pain because I wasnt allowed to take my pain medication prior. This is miserable. Luckily my nurse noticed I was in pain and got me a pain pill, but only about 5 minutes before I was headed back into surgery. She advises my anesthetist to be liberal with his drugs because Im not a complainer but she knows im in pain. I hit the OR, a little bit of versed to relax me, I meet the doc briefly, they start to shave my chest and Im out. I wake up in post op, in mild pain, but not too bad. Claires there for me. We go through all the checks they have to do to let me get out of there and we head to the cancer center, they have FINALLY located my doctor and he has written me a long term prescription for my pain. Its been a long day just because of the delays and not eating. So we grab some soup at Panera on the way home, eat some lunch, we cuddle on the couch and take a nap. The rest of the day is sort of a wash, nothing exciting to write about.
Sleeping was tough, the port became tender around Midnight, I couldn't lay on my stomach or my right side so it was a combo of pillows blankets and the couch to get me into a position that I could at least get comfortable in. Sleep was minimal but I got some.
